03-07-2014·A honing guide comes in handy if you are new to honing chisels and plane irons.Probably the "Eclipse" brand type is easiest to use.Start out by honing the back of the chisel dead flat before honing the bevel. Maybe a 1/2" or more of the back should be flat,no use flattening the entire chisel.This creates a sharp edge.
